The Ontario government, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health and other health experts, is imposing a provincewide “emergency brake” as a result of an alarming surge in case numbers and COVID-19 hospitalizations across the province.

Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy released Ontario’s 2021 Budget, Ontario’s Action Plan: Protecting People’s Health and Our Economy. The document is primarily focused on the immediate response to the COVID-19 pandemic, adding $6 billion since the Fall Economic Statement, bringing Ontario’s total pandemic response to $51 billion.

The Ontario Ministry of Health has published an update memo to its Phase 2 Vaccination Plan. The memo details minor revisions to the Second Group of Essential Workers who cannot work from home to include construction sector workers.

Yesterday Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister, Steve Clark, announced that the Ontario government is providing an additional $500 million to help the province’s 444 municipalities address ongoing COVID-19 operating costs. The new financial relief will help ensure the delivery of critical services and capital projects.

The Government of Ontario’s emergency orders have been extended until March 21st under the Reopening Ontario Act, the province is maintaining the Stay-at-Home order and all existing public health and workplace safety measures are in effect for an additional two weeks in the Toronto and Peel Public Health Regions, along with the North Bay-Parry Sound District.
