Bruce Matthews, Executive Director

Bruce G. Matthews, P.Eng. serves as the Executive Director. He possesses sixteen years of management experience in not-for-profit organizations. His association experience includes deputy registrar postings at Professional Engineers Ontario, the Real Estate Council of Ontario and the Ontario College of Trades.
Bruce has also held board positions, including terms as President and Chair, in the not-for-profit sector with the Human Factors Association of Canada and most recently the Council on Licensure, Enforcement and Regulation.
First licensed as a professional engineer in 1990, Bruce’s professional engineering experience includes staff and leadership roles at Atomic Energy of Canada, the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), BGM Human Factors Engineering and the Ford Motor Company. He received a Bachelor of Applied Science in Systems Design Engineering at from the University of Waterloo and a Certificate in Building Science from the University of Toronto.
David Zurawel, Director, Government & Stakeholder Relations

David Zurawel is responsible for providing strategic counsel and policy advice while building ACEC-Ontario’s industry profile with government officials and other stakeholders, drawing on more than 15 years’ public affairs experience.
Prior to joining ACEC-Ontario David played a leadership role in Ontario’s public sector efforts to reshape the province’s occupational health and safety system. His other not-for-profit experience includes working in Ontario’s institutional, commercial and industrial (ICI) construction sectors. David has served as an executive assistant to the Parliamentary Assistant to Ontario’s Attorney General, and managed operations of the Ontario government’s Toronto Caucus. He has also worked in public affairs for an international public relations agency and held positions at Canada’s embassy and for a Member of the United States House of Representatives in Washington, D.C.
David earned his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Political Science from the University of Western Ontario and his Master of Arts in Political Science from Wilfrid Laurier University.

Michelle West, Director, Marketing & Communications

Michelle West is responsible for the planning, implementation and reinforcement of ACEC-Ontario’s identity and brand. Using a variety of channels, Michelle helps deliver on our mission through impactful and effective marketing and communications strategy.
Michelle is a senior marketing and communications leader with nearly two decades of progressive experience in various industries for both non-profit and business-to-business environments. She has extensive leadership experience driving marketing and communications programs focused on enhancing membership value and engagement. One of her past accomplishments is an award-winning Government Relations campaign that brought consumer awareness to, and stopped the implementation of, a further tax on Ontario consumers.

Lynne Harris, Manager, Finance & Operations

Lynne Harris is responsible for the association’s financial management and reporting, as well as administration, human resources, and operations. As a member of the management team, she works closely with the Finance and Audit Committee to ensure that budgets are aligned with the organization’s strategic plan and objectives.
Lynne is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Certified Management Accountant. She has extensive experience in both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors. She has many years of experience on the management teams of small to medium sized companies, mainly in the manufacturing sector. She pivoted to the not-for-profit sector becoming the founding Finance Manager at a provincial government agency.

Laura Korneluk, Manager, Engagement

Laura serves as the association’s engagement advocate, improving the quality of member engagement and volunteerism. She works collaboratively to develop, manage, and evaluate programs that enhance the value proposition of ACEC-Ontario membership and fulfill its strategic priorities. Laura is responsible for member and volunteer data management and insight.
Laura is experienced in program design and implementation of volunteer, health promotion, and therapeutic recreation programs. Her experience includes volunteer engagement in both the not-for-profit and public sectors. Prior to joining ACEC-Ontario, Laura worked as a Volunteer Coordinator for a community health center, with a focus of engaging volunteers with physical disabilities.
Laura holds an Honours Bachelor of Applied Science in Adult Development from The University of Guelph. She has also received her Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from the Canadian Society of Association Executives (CSAE). Laura is currently working to complete a Knowledge Mobilization Certificate (KMb) at the University of Guelph.

Catherine Morrison, Issues & Stakeholder Relations Specialist

Catherine is responsible for providing support on strategic initiatives and conducting policy-based research.
Catherine has a background in the Immigration and Accounting industry. Previously, she held a position as a Law Clerk at Ernst & Young where she administered legal immigration and cross border travel services. She has experience working with international and Canadian clients to assess their immigration needs in order to petition visa applications directly to government agencies.
Catherine earned her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Political Studies from Queen’s University where she actively involved and educated students on Canadian civic processes and procedures through her work with the Queen’s Model Parliament.

Lauryn Weinberger, Programs & Events Planner

Lauryn is responsible for executing our member programs and coordinating all events with the intent to provide benefits to members.
Lauryn is experienced in event management. Previously, she held the position of fundraising coordinator at a leading not for profit organization where she developed and executed numerous events and fundraising campaigns. Lauryn holds a certificate in Event Management from Algonquin College.
