Mississauga, Ontario – January 31, 2024 – Today, the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies-Ontario (ACEC-Ontario) offered the Ontario government its continued support to keep the province moving forward.

ACEC-Ontario’s 2024 provincial pre-budget submission identifies a series of recommendations that would enable the government to:

  • Deliver more projects on-time and on-budget;
  • Reduce repair costs and keep the economy moving forward;
  • Ensure a strong, diverse workforce capable of meeting challenges; and,
  • Protect the public interest.

” The work of Ontario’s consulting engineering companies is deeply embedded in the fabric of communities across Ontario” said Andrew Hurd, Executive Director of ACEC-Ontario. “As the government implements its infrastructure plan, our 140 member firms will be needed more than ever.”

Indeed, the government’s historic $184 billion investment in infrastructure has resulted in unprecedented levels of activity not seen in generations. By standardizing contracts, supporting resilient infrastructure design, and increasing diverse engagement in STEM education and careers, the government can maximize its return on this investment.

Hurd added, “Ontario isn’t merely investing in infrastructure; it’s investing in its legacy. By adopting these recommendations, the government will help ensure that our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have a strong community where they can live, grow, and succeed.”
