Navigating Non‑Payment: Strategic Use of Legal Tools While Preserving Client Relationships – Hosted by McMillan LLP

Audience: Public Format: Virtual
Date:

September 17 at 12:00 pm 1:15 pm

Payment challenges can place significant strain on projects, budgets, and long standing client relationships. Understanding the legal tools available—and how to use them strategically—is essential to protecting your organization while maintaining trust and partnership.

In this webinar, legal experts from McMillan LLP will walk participants through the key mechanisms available under Ontario’s Construction Act including liens, prompt payment requirements, and adjudication. Attendees will learn what each tool is designed to accomplish, when it is appropriate to use, and how to leverage these rights without escalating conflict unnecessarily.

The session will also explore the practical steps to take when payments are delayed or withheld: when to issue a letter or notice of default, how to determine whether adjudication or a lien is warranted, and how to approach disputes thoughtfully when projects still have years remaining or involve valued long term clients. The discussion will highlight when to involve legal counsel and which high risk options should be avoided unless absolutely necessary.

Participants will leave with a clear, integrated understanding of their rights, their remedies, and the strategies available to navigate payment issues while preserving important business relationships.

This webinar is ideal for consulting engineering professionals, construction professionals, project managers, financial leaders, client side, and emerging professionals seeking to manage payment disputes effectively and professionally.
